HARRISBURG – Rep. Matthew Dowling (R-Fayette/Somerset), chairman of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Second Amendment Caucus, issued the following statement regarding the tragic school shooting in Uvalde, Texas:

“What happened yesterday at the elementary school in Texas, what happened to those children who had so much life ahead of them, is nothing short of horrific. I am devastated for the families, for the school teachers and staff, for the community, and for our country.

“This was an attack by a crazed individual who would have found a way to get weapons to carry out his act of terror regardless of the law. Criminals do not abide by laws, and laws will not stop bad people with anger in their hearts from senseless acts of violence.

“There is an epidemic of anger and hatred in this country that we cannot continue to ignore. There is no easy solution, but it is long past time to take a serious look at what we can do better to address mental health care in our state and nation.”
