HARRISBURG – Rep. Matthew Dowling (R-Fayette/Somerset) issued the following statement in response to Monday’s leak of a draft opinion that suggests the U.S. Supreme Court may overturn Roe v. Wade:
“I have been stalwart in my support for all life. The leaked Roe v. Wade opinion offers optimism to those who believe life starts at conception. Following the potential overturn of the 1973 case, the state Legislature will need to enact laws that further prevent abortions in the Commonwealth.
“As we move into June and finalize a budget, this reversal also will present further questions about institutions of higher education that have engaged in National Institutes of Health-funded fetal tissue research. There has been a movement for this reason to fund students rather than institutions. As someone who believes every life has dignity and that we must preserve the most vulnerable, the unborn, I see any reversal of this landmark case as a win.”
