UNIONTOWN – Rep. Matt Dowling (R-Fayette/Somerset) is inviting area veterans and their families to a picnic and ceremony in honor of their service to the country. This event will also be open to non-veterans who wish to honor the service of our military men and women.
“No group has given more to our communities, our Commonwealth and our country than our veterans,” Dowling said. “The sacrifices they made for us must always be remembered, and this event is one small way we can show them that we not only remember but are forever grateful to them.”
The picnic and ceremony are open to veterans of all wars, conflicts and other military operations. It will be held on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 20, at the Hopwood AMVEST Post 103, located at 123 Buttermilk Lane, Hopwood
The event will feature live music provided by the VFW Post 8543 Band of Uniontown and catering by the Stonehouse Inn. Speakers will include local Marine Cpl. Brandon Rumbaugh and Madonna Nicklow of the U.S. Veterans Administration. Several booths offering information of interest to veterans will also be on site.
The event opens at noon with the ceremony scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The picnic will follow. Veterans participating in the ceremony must arrive by 12:30 p.m.
Dowling encourages area residents to register in advance by visiting RepDowling.com
