Public Participation Panel on Addiction
Drug use is first and foremost a problem for the individual drug user. However, an individual’s drug use becomes a community drug problem when a significant number of people are engaging in epidemic use or when the community does not have adequate resources to deal with the problems that arise. In response to the community epidemic on addiction, I have announced the formation of a new Public Participation Panel on Addiction in the 51st District (PPP on Addiction).

In January, my office held a hearing on behalf of the House Majority Policy Committee, where Auditor General Eugene DePasquale testified on his ‘State of the Child’ report, which focused on Children and Youth Services and their relationship with the opioid crisis that’s fallen upon the Commonwealth. Soon, I realized this conversation was much larger than what we could fit into an afternoon. Realizing there are so many more aspects of addiction and areas of life that it affects, all of which deserve a place in this conversation, I want to provide an outlet to educate my constituents and shine a light on the issues at hand and those who are working to solve them.

The PPP on Addiction is a partnership between the Fayette County Drug and Alcohol Commission, other community organizations, and my office. A list of member organizations will be available here. Community organizations, churches, nonprofits organizations and businesses are welcome to join without any charge.
