Dowling’s Medical Assistance Reform Vetoed by Gov. Wolf
HARRISBURG – Rep. Matt Dowling (R-Fayette/Somerset) was disappointed to learn that Gov. Tom Wolf chose to veto his Medical Assistance Work Requirements legislation, House Bill 2138, which would have aided Pennsylvanians on Medical Assistance in gaining their independence and rising out of poverty.

“It is unfortunate to see the governor take this action on a bill which would have helped bring dignity of work to all Pennsylvanians,” Dowling stated. “This bill was carefully vetted by the House and Senate, debated at length and amended to ensure exclusions were outlined for all those who are unable to work.”

The goal of House Bill 2138 was to establish work requirements or community engagement as a condition of eligibility for Medical Assistance for able-bodied recipients, while putting in place exclusions which would exempt those unable to work from the proposed requirements.

“Real reform is necessary to ensure those in most need receive the assistance our community should provide for them,” Dowling concluded.
