– Sen. Pat Stefano (R-Fayette/Somerset/Westmoreland) and Rep. Matthew Dowling (R-Fayette/Somerset), in coordination with Addison Borough and Joel Landis of the Somerset County Department of Emergency Services, issued the following update regarding the water emergency in Addison Borough, Somerset County.
As of today, the Addison Area Water Authority has ended its water conservation notice. All Addison residents should have running water coming into their residence. Though the water conservation notice has been lifted, a boil water advisory is still in effect for those areas.
All leaks in the system have been identified and repaired according to Kevin Nogroski of the Addison Area Water Authority.
“At this point the system is working as expected. We are hoping to get a new upgrade to the system online as soon as possible,” Nogroski said.
He says that the first of the leaks causing the outage was found when the authority was in the process of installing and certifying a new storage tank.
“What made the leak so difficult to find is that there is roughly two miles of waterline that needed searched between our well site and the new storage tank. It took time to find and time to get the needed equipment in to get it fixed,” he said.
Following the lift of the conservation notice, the water buffalos provided by Somerset County Department of Emergency Services that were located throughout Addison have been removed. Bottled drinking water continues to be distributed at the Addison Volunteer Fire Department, 7214 National Pike
, Addison, PA 15411. Residents are urged to use bottled water for drinking and cooking.
“Seeing all forms of government coming together to assist in this local event is inspiring. The true crisis was solved by the countless hours of the boots-on-the-ground water authority members and those local elected officials. Positions always need filled in these roles and the more community involvement the better. I encourage anybody to be part of these entities to better your community,” Landis said.
If residents are still without water and need assistance, they are urged to call Addison Borough Mayor Sam Collins at 814-395-5253.
