UNIONTOWN – Rep. Matt Dowling (R-Fayette/Somerset) is inviting local veterans and their families to picnics and ceremonies being held to honor their service and dedication to the United States. He also welcomes non-veterans who wish to pay tribute to the men and women who dedicate their lives to protect their country to attend.
“We are truly indebted to veterans, both local and abroad, who have time and time again put their lives on the line to defend our nation and its citizens,” said Dowling. “These picnics and ceremonies are our way of recognizing and honoring these veterans and all they have done and continue to do for both our communities and our country.”
This year, two picnics and ceremonies will be held in the area at no charge for attendees. These two events are open to veterans of all wars, conflicts and other military operations. The first picnic and ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 4, at the Hopwood AMVETS Post 103, located at 123 Buttermilk Lane, Hopwood. The second picnic and ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 5, at Meyersdale American Legion Post 112, located at 413 Grant St., Meyersdale.
Saturday’s event will run from 12:30-3:30 p.m., with veteran registration beginning at noon, and Sunday’s event will run from 2-4:30 p.m., with veteran registration beginning at 1:30 p.m. Dowling encourages area veterans to register in advance by visiting RepDowling.com
